Impact of the US Elections on India
A humorous connect between the US Elections and the latest happenings in India.
The ongoing US elections have had a direct impact on the Indian peninsula.
It is now clear that Biden has trumped Trump. Donald had been blowing the trump-et believing that he had the trumps in his deck. He expected to call the shots especially with the pandemic shots nowhere in sight. But just like India, the Lotus trumped the POTUS. Kamala “Lotus” (Kamala means Lotus in the Hindu heartland) Harris along with Joe has waved the “Hand” away and said “Bye-Don” to make the White House a For-Biden territory for Trump.
Meanwhile, Trump has declared that he is the true winner and shall even move the Supreme Court there. Royal Challengers Bangalore is closely monitoring the developments and drawing inspiration from the American circus. As per unconfirmed reports, they are contemplating a back door entry into the qualifiers by appealing to the third empire in the on-going IPL tournament.
Milind Soman too seems to have taken inspiration from Trump. He seems to be saying that if Donald has the balls, so does he! And he has decided to unabashedly show it. Well almost. His run on the Goa beach in birthday clothes, to mark his 55th year brings back memories of his famous (or rather infamous) advertisement with Madhu Sapre over 25 years ago. The only difference is that this time around, Madhu is missing, so is the python and the shoes seem to have become extinct. This seems to have propelled the Sen-sex into higher orbits mirroring the Dow Joe-ns. The Gujarati community has prepared a campaign “Av-Joe” welcoming the new President of the US.
Meanwhile, Thulasendrapuram is basking in the new-found glory on account of the US elections. Though Kamala may not be able to even pronounce Thulasendrapuram, this location in rural South India has voted in favour of Kamala Harris and have even made a plaque with her name adorning a temple there. Apparently, the people think that Kamala’s roots from there would translate to a visa free access to America now on. Thank God, she is not the POTUS candidate, else, Thulasendrapuram may have declared itself to be an American colony! The village is seriously debating about declaring itself the 51st state in the USA is what a few people confide in case Kamala becomes the POTUS in the future.
Covid-19 has got relegated to a distant 10th position with US elections. A survey conducted by an on-line platform on the Top-of-mind recall for Indians puts the US elections, IPL cricket matches, Milind Soman, Bihar elections and Arnab’s arrest, way above Covid-19. Not just this, the great Indian festival sale by Amazon and Flipkart and even Poonam Pandey are garnering more eye balls than the pandemic.
What happens in India is intrinsically and deeply linked to how the American story unfolds. This can be understood by a simple fact. Bengaluru is referred to as India’s Silicon valley. My friend from Bengaluru had gone to the original Silicon Valley for a project for three months last year. And his daughter has been speaking with an American accent ever since.
